RHS Crafted FROM nature
STARK STRAND DESIGN
Inspired by Norfolk’s landscapes, natural
materials and skilled makers, the RHS Crafted
from Nature Garden explores how local
resources can shape contemporary gardens
that are both beautiful and biodiverse.
Naturalistic planting weaves together nectar-rich
flowers and edibles, providing food and habitat
for wildlife while creating a soft, immersive landscape.
At the heart of the garden, a hand-
carved York stone sculpture by Teucer Wilson takes its cue from the graceful forms of reeds
found across Norfolk’s waterways and marshes.
A textural reed wall, created by local master
thatcher Nick Walker, reinterprets traditional
Norfolk water reed in a contemporary way.
Stacked bundles of reed provide a natural
screen, creating a sense of enclosure while also
acting as a growing medium for strawberries
and providing valuable habitat for insects.
Weathered steel elements reference the
county’s agricultural heritage and complement
the garden’s natural materials.
The garden celebrates the value of looking
locally for inspiration, demonstrating how
regional materials, traditional skills and
thoughtful planting can be combined to create
beautiful, wildlife-friendly spaces with a strong
sense of place.
